Our 73 learning areas are designed to inspire curiosity, collaboration and achievement.

Spaces for Learning, Innovation and Growth
From the first-year classroom to our specialist arts, science, and technology labs, every learning space at St Edward’s has been thoughtfully designed and equipped.

With 73 purpose-built rooms, state-of-the-art digital tools, and flexible environments, students can engage deeply, explore boldly and work together meaningfully. Here, every space supports a young man’s journey toward becoming something greater.

All rooms have data projectors and screens as well as docking stations to enable teachers to connect their notebooks to the College network.

Individual faculties have their own resources including dedicated software and equipment to enhance learning.

General

General Classrooms

St Edward’s College has classrooms centrally located within the College. These rooms are used for the subjects English, Mathematics, HSIE, Languages and Religion.

All classrooms have a data projector and screen, together with a docking station to enable teachers to connect their notebooks to the College network.

All teachers have a notebook for this purpose. Each room accommodates up to 32 students. For the comfort of staff and students, air conditioning is available in many general rooms, in all visual art rooms, in all computer rooms, in the food technology room, the music rooms, music practice rooms, drama room, in the tiered theatre, canteen, library and in the ERC Foyer.

Individual faculties have their own resources including dedicated software to enhance learning. All faculties have access to equipment to aid in teaching and learning.

The Drama room

The Drama room is located on the first floor of the Br M D Shanahan Learning Centre.

Drama and Entertainment facilities and equipment include:

  • Rear Projector and screen for film and performance
  • Video cameras and tripods
  • Portable lighting desks
  • Theatrical lighting both tungsten and LED
  • 32 point patch panel and dedicated lighting bars
  • 240 degree theatrical curtaining for flexible performance spaces
  • Stage blocks
  • A large range of props and costumes
  • Audio mixing console and PA
  • Two dedicated storage areas
  • Vision switcher and associated cue monitors

The Drama Department also has the use of the large stage area in the Edmund Rice Centre as well as the Theatre.

Food Technology and Hospitality Area

Food Technology and Hospitality

This area has an air-conditioned theory room with projector and screen, together with a docking station to enable teachers to connect their notebooks to the College network.

The kitchen and practical area has the following facilities for six groups of four students:

Music Rooms

Music Rooms

The Music Faculty is located on the 1st floor of the Br M D Shanahan Learning Centre and has the use of the following facilities.
  • 2 dedicated music classrooms with large rehearsal stage areas and instruments for in class performance and demonstration.
  • A third music/general purpose classroom to be utilised a large rehearsal space for concert band rehearsals (containing a full band setup – including guitar/bass/keyboard instruments/amps and acoustic drum kit).

Each of the dedicated music rooms contain the following equipment:

  • 26 Computers connected to MIDI keyboards to be utilised with our notation software (Finale and Sibelius), as well as industry standard sequencing software (Acid Music). Musition 5 and Auralia 5 are utilised for theory based work.
  • Sound recording equipment (to record performances/compositions).
  • 2 Flat screen televisions to display lesson information and demonstrate software applications.
  • LED lighting to make practical lessons even more dynamic.
  • 26 Acoustic guitars to cater for every student.
  • 6 rehearsal rooms containing: PA (mixer desk and speakers), practice amplifiers, electric/acoustic guitars, bass guitars, keyboards, electric drum kits.
  • Brass, woodwind and various string instruments (available for concert band students participating in school musical concerts and productions on a loan basis).
  • Access to 190 seat theatre for large group lessons (e.g. guitar and djembe drums) and performance based activities.

Science

The Science faculty

The Science faculty has 5 laboratories with gas, electricity and water as well as 3 preparation rooms.

Equipment in the Science block includes:

Visual Arts and Photography

Visual Arts and Photography

The St Edward’s Visual Arts and Photography Departments have access to the following facilities:
  • 3 Art rooms
  • 1 fully equipped darkroom
  • 22 computers
  • 1 colour printer/photocopier.
  • Specialist photographic printer
  • Specialist photographic programs such as Photoshop and Spyder,
  • Electric Kiln
  • Ceramics area and a wide variety of media including different clays, underglazes, tissue transfers, and many of the tools and implements used by ceramic artists.
  • 2 Etching press suitable for a variety of printmaking processes
  • Large library of books and resources both online and hard copy.

Students also have access to the following off campus facilities:

  • Gosford Pool
  • Gosford Art Gallery

Gosford Pool is used twice a year for Year 8 underwater photography and the Gosford Art Gallery is used across the year groups from Year 7, who visit twice a year, to senior students who can access the gallery any time they or their teacher chooses.

School Certificate, Preliminary and HSC students have full access to all art rooms and the art resources during their lessons and outside class time. Students are actively encouraged to access the art rooms outside school hours, in holiday times or free lessons.
